Nicholas Kirkwood is not Christian Louboutin‘s competitor in the shoe industry, just because his shoes – apart from the killer heels – are totally different. He is a 28-year-old Central Saint Martins’ graduate and a luxury shoe designer whose name is getting bigger and bigger on the designer scene.
Nicholas Kirkwood‘s shoe philosophy isn’t based on the trends already set, but the trends he sets himself, which is actually everything he feels like. The shoes he designs are geometrized and their key feature is a sharpened, jagged platform. He dedicates his designs to the “women with presence and a bit of rock ‘n’ roll”.
The shoes from his collections are expensive, insensible, nonclassical and they don’t make a match with lots of clothes. But it looks like his customers love them against all odds! Nicholas Kirkwood is said to have already joined a big shoe trio which includes Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo.
Luxe satin, suede, lizard and snakeskin – an Autumn 2009 / Winter 2010 collection consists of the shoes I would say were brought from Mars. I don’t know which one is the most cosmic and ‘loco’ and I don’t know where to start, so please just check out his collection and you’ll know what I mean.
