Charlotte Free: A Modelling Career in the Pink

woman with pink hair

The pink-aired and porcelain-skinned Charlotte Free was first discovered by photographer David Mushegain while shopping in her home town of Los Angeles, and has been brightening up the fashion industry with her distinctly different style ever since. She made her catwalk debut during the Autumn/ Winter fashion season of 2011/ 2012 and quickly became the darling of fashion’s more daring and quirky designers, including Dame Vivienne Westwood, who chose Charlotte Free to open her much-anticipated Red Label collection at London Fashion Week. Since then she may have been a little scarce on the catwalks, but her fashion career is going from strength to strength.

Pretty in Punk

“I don’t really fit the traditional mould of a model”, says Charlotte Free, and many would agree. The petite 18-year-old is only 5 ft 7 in height, and she doesn’t visit designer salons to get her signature pink hair, she dyes it herself in her own home! She’s been a breath of fresh air to the modelling industry, and has made pink hair a popular new fashion trend. Her famous hair has seen a highly versatile range of styles, from cotton-candy cute to sleek and chic with the perfect touch of shocking deep pink.

Maybe She’s Born With It…

Charlotte Free is currently the face of fashion brand Forever 21, and the beautiful young trendsetter was also announced as the new face of Maybelline earlier this year; Charlotte Free was chosen to promote the brand’s “Popsticks” lipstick range. Global brand president Damien Bertrand described Charlotte as “Spontaneous, confident and daring… the perfect representative of the Maybelline New York woman.” The model was also thrilled to bring her unique style to the famous brand, saying it was “a dream come true.”

More than a Pretty Face

During her brief time in the spotlight, Charlotte Free has already amassed a large base of fans who are hailing her as “the next Kate Moss” for her quirky yet gorgeous style. The model also seems to be the perfect combination of beauty and brains; in a recent interview with Vogue she revealed that she wanted to study science in college, but was aware she would need to work hard and earn money to make that possible. Fate intervened when she was discovered fresh out of high school, and at the tender age of 18, Charlotte Free has many years ahead to make her original dreams come true as well!

Nicky Warner is an avid fashion blogger and a big fan of Charlotte Free – this lovely lady could rock anything from frilly pink tutus to classic black suits and still look gorgeous and unique!
