How to Safely Remove Eye Makeup

Bioderma Micelle Solution

Many people love wearing eye makeup because of the dynamic look it creates. Unfortunately, removing eye makeup can be an unpleasant experience that can potential harm your skin and eyes. To help reduce certain risks, here are 6 tips on how to safely remove eye makeup.

1. Remove your contacts first

Although it is often recommended to remove your contact lenses first before removing your eye makeup, there seems to be mixed responses. While removing your contact lenses first will help prevent damage during makeup removal, many people still choose to keep their contact lenses in during the process.

If you don’t have contact lenses or you want to get new ones, you can visit NextDayLenses.com to find a great match.

2. Use water-based makeup removers

When removing eye makeup, you should use oil-free products since they are designed to not leave your skin feeling greasy. Unfortunately, products that use oil can leave a film over your skin that may trap bacteria and lead to eye infections.

When choosing a makeup remover, it is important to check that it is safe for contact wearers to use. In many cases, people are warned against using waterproof makeup since it is much more difficult to wash off. However, many eye doctors may actually recommend using waterproof eyeliner and mascara to prevent flakes from entering the eye and damaging the contact lens and/or your eye. If you choose to wear waterproof makeup, you will need to choose the appropriate remover.

3. Add the product to the skin around your eye and gently massage

When applying a product, be sure to read and follow the instructions completely for best results.

When massaging the product into the skin, always be gentle and avoid using a lot of pressure. If you rub vigorously at your eye, you can potentially damage your contact lens and/or your eye.

It is also very important that you keep any makeup removers sealed when not in use. If you leave the top open, bacteria can grow that can potentially cause eye infections. You should also be aware of the expiry dates on your makeup and toss out old makeup to avoid possible infections as well.

4. Use a damp cloth to dab the skin

Once your makeup has been successfully removed, you may want to followup with a gentle makeup remover facial cleanse. A makeup remover facial cleanse is designed to remove any remaining makeup from your skin to help leave it fresh and clean.

Wearing eye makeup can be a lot of fun and create confidence. By referring to these 6 tips, you can safely remove your makeup and keep your skin feeling fresh afterward.
