Practical Fashion Trends That Will Change Your Summer

We get it, some trends can be downright ludicrous and aren’t practical for everyday wear (extra-long, knee-grazing sleeves, anyone?). But summer is the season of the bold, new, and unexpected, and everything from denim on denim to lingerie dressing is fair game. While we’re not suggesting that you buy into some blouses with meter-long sleeves, we have a few approachable trends, both new and updated, to add some freshness to your summer wardrobe.

  1. Bold New Tropical Prints

Tropical prints have been resort, vacation, and summertime go-tos for years now, but the trend has gotten some much needed TLC recently with fresh new botanicals. These beloved beach-ready prints have gone from festive, colorful arrangements of palm prints and flower patterns, to slightly more minimalist and grown-up: centered on palm leaves (sans floral prints) in varying sizes and a limited number of colorways (not much more than 3 colors!).

Tropical Print Shift Dress

From traditional fan leaves to feathered palm and banana leaves, this trend has made a refreshing but mature shift for the better. You may have feared looking like a total vacation tourist in a traditional tropical print, but those days are long gone. For city, country, and island girls alike, this new-old trend is chic for all.

  1. Luxe Pajama Dressing

Now this is a trend we can really get behind. Who wouldn’t love being able to hop into an Uber and meet up with your girlfriends in the same thing you went to bed in? The luxe pajama trend has been gracing runways, celebrity closets, and Instagram feeds alike. If going out in your silk jammie set, or putting your satin slip on display, seems a little too revealing, try a glorious romper in a silky fabric with slight sheen.

Pajama Dressing Romper

Not only is it super comfortable, it’s also luxurious and transitions easily from day to night. So next time you’re feeling like bailing on your friends for brunch out of pure laziness, just remember that wearing your cute pajamas is now totally socially acceptable. Pair with that beachy, bed head of yours and indulge in your new I woke up like this look.

  1. Casual Chic White on White

Warning: this trend is not for the faint of heart. If prone to ketchup stains, tripping with a glass of wine in your hand, or having the misfortune of sitting on chewed gum (guilty!), this may not be for you. So now that we’ve eliminated practically everyone living and breathing, this trend is for everyone and works for every occasion. Though monochrome isn’t anything new to hit the scene, it is becoming a staple in every it-girl’s closet. Instantly classy and crisp looking for the summer, white on white looks great with practically any color your heels could possibly come in, and works for all body types.

White On White Fashion Trend

Despite what you may have heard about black and other dark colors being the only slimming pieces of clothing you can wear, white on white can be worn in a variety of silhouettes to highlight your best features. So go ahead, make the switch from your “black is the new black” attitude to white on white! And may I also suggest ordering the white wine rather than your usual cabernet? Just a suggestion.
