Dying to try out red lips but scared you are going to end up looking like a clown? Follow these simple tips from Beyonce’s stylist to achieve the perfect red pout without looking like you over did it.

1. Keep the rest of your makeup barely there

What do all these ladies have in common besides a red pout? The rest of their face is almost bare. Since red lipstick is a dramatic look, swipe on some mascara and if you must, a little bit of liner like LC. No eyeshadow, unless it is super subtle like Beyonce’s little bit of sparkle on her lid. A little bit of blush and you are good to go! The rest of your face should appear natural and your lips should do all the talking.

2. Keep your hairstyle casual

Another thing these celebs have in common is they kept their hair down and tousled. They are whole look is casual and it does not look like they tried too hard, which also keeps the focus on the lips. Beyonce’s hair stylist left some loose pieces down in front of her face which works. Too done up is too much.

3. Pick an accessory to match

Grab a red clutch, a bracelet, or shoes to match your lips and amp up the look a bit! Remember, the days of matching your nail polish to your lipstick are gone.

4. Go glossy

Try glossy red lips like Beyonce’s instead of a matte. Why? Matte lipstick with a highly pigmented formula glides on smoothly and imparts a velvety, high-fashion finish. Unfortunately, sometimes matte appears too glammed up. In this case, choose a lipstick that gives a more fluid appearance.

5. Be confident!

Last but not least, stand up straight and be confident. Red lips screams confidence but they cannot do all the work themselves!
